Does this make sense to anyone...?
It is unjust that those settlers misunderstood how the land was being used, unjust that they commonly saw the American natives (and other non-Europeans) as subhuman, and unjust that the diseases they (mostly unintentionally) brought with them decimated the native population. That being said, we cannot change the past, but must merely learn to live with it. Would it be just to evict those currently living on the land (who most likely have no connection at all to these original settlers, and may in fact have some native blood)? Would it be just to confie the property and livelihoods of millions to benefit the small minority of those currently declaring themselves members of Native tribes?
